FOR FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND PARTNERS

As a parent, friend, or partner, it can be incredibly difficult to watch a loved one struggle with disordered eating. Helping find the right support and care for a loved one can be challenging and unfamiliar. On top of that, we are never taught HOW to support someone with an eating disorder, disordered eating, or body image issues. It is not a common or comfortable conversation, but normalizing discussions around food and body and educating ourselves on this topic are vital steps we must take in supporting the people around us who are struggling.

Understand that the boundaries we set with our loved ones are flexible. This means that we can always learn from our experiences in supporting someone, that supporting someone is never a perfect process, and that communication is key when navigating this process. There are multiple resources out there to help you learn more about what your loved one is going through and how you can support them best. You can find our recommended books on the resources page of our website.
